A law unto the themselves
Autocracy is supposedly a dirty word when it comes to governance and alleged corporate fair trading, and if ever disputed by the money ‘grubbers’, the screams of ‘democracy’ are heralded loud and clear. But wholesale electricity distributors, such as Ausgrid, whose autocratic practice of punishing solar PV owners with a ‘sun tax’, believe otherwise – they, just like the gas industry, are a law unto themselves.

Good times and great laughs in support of cancer research
Every day, approximately 70 women are diagnosed with some form of cancer. On Saturday, 14 September, hundreds of Coasties will come together at Ettalong Diggers for the ‘Cancer Council Carnivale Girls Night In’ annual fundraiser, which directly supports local families undergoing treatment for women’s cancers here on the Central Coast.

The biggest cause of littering is laziness and carelessness, lack of access to rubbish bins and lenient local government enforcement. Litter pollutes our neighbourhoods, decreases property values, and destroys the natural beauty of where we live.

The NSW Government unveiled new tools last week to combat data breaches by scammers, with a new resource to help students spot scams and an online portal to check the legitimacy of a breach notification. Scams Awareness Week was a timely reminder for all members of the community to know the signs of a scam and how to avoid becoming a victim.

I’ve been everywhere: a PFAS nightmare
Just like the Lucky Starr hit song of 1962, I’ve Been Everywhere Man, PFAS, which includes PFOA, (perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances), known as ‘forever chemicals’, are contaminating our water catchments and drinking water river systems – the Central Coast is no exception. Yet Sydney Water's principal health adviser Kaye Power said "there's no concern for us".

The inquiry revealed the tragedy of human stories and of successive state governments, who, for what seems an eternity for a community suffering in the shadow of power stations, has ignored the plight of people living north of Wyong.
