$100,000 committed

to secure future of Pelican Park

NSW Labor has committed to deliver $100,000 to the Central Coast Council for the upgrade of Pelican Park, including new playground, improvements to accessibility and maintenance if elected on Saturday.

22 March 2023

PELICAN PARK was initially scheduled for demolition by Central Coast Council in 2021. After significant community upset and a petition by the Member for Gosford, Liesl Tesch, with over 6,000 signatures in the first 48 hours, council reversed their decision.

The funding will ensure that Pelican Park will remain open for generations of children and their parents to enjoy.

Ms Tesch says that her position has remained clear; if it’s unsafe, make it safe.

“From the point I became aware Pelican Park would be demolished I was clear that instead of demolishing it, we should make it safe," Ms Tesch said.

“This funding will ensure that we can create a safe and accessible park for all members of the community to use.”

Local parent Hamish McCracken says Pelican Park is an important community resource for his family, and would have been terrible to see it lost.

“Pelican Park has been an important part of my family’s life. It’s been a great place to stop and play with my kids for lunch or a break while out on our weekend rides," Mr McCracken said.

“It would have been terrible to see another community asset lost.”

Another parent, Eryn Bennett, says it would be disappointing to see it close.

“I am so glad to hear Pelican Park will not be demolished. It would have been really disappointing to see it close.”

Ms Tesch says that she is happy to work with our Council to create a better park.

“Pelican Park is not just any park, it is an iconic park, celebrated by both locals and visitors, she said.

“I am happy that we will work with Council to find a better solution for Pelican Park to keep this important community space available.”
