Angie Baby back on the mic
It’s not every day that being issued with a ticket brings a smile to your face. But a smile as wide as Woy Woy Bay appeared on the face of Woy Woy resident, singer and hairdresser, Angie Baby.

ANGIE received a Golden Ticket to the Australian Idol audition in January [for 2025], giving her a 1 in 50 chance of becoming the next Australian Idol.
Member for Gosford, Liesl Tesch described [Woy Woy hairdresser] Angie Baby’s Idol audition as a win both for Angie and for the popularity of Central Coast town of Woy Woy.
“It’s been a couple of years since we’ve seen Angie’s vibrant face out the front of WOW WOW on Railway Street Woy Woy, since Angie’s been operating her home salon."Liesl Tesch said.
"Almost every day I’m in the Woy Woy office, I see Angie’s old WOW WOW hair salon sign, so it’s fantastic to see she’s thriving.
“I’m delighted by the news that Angie has secured a coveted Golden Ticket for Australian Idol 2025. What a moment to showcase her fabulous performance skills as well as getting even more eyeballs on our famous Woy Woy...”
“The town of Woy Woy, and the entire Central Coast, will be cheering for you, Angie, when you take to the stage.”
Angie operated WOW WOW hair salon on Railway Street for six years. Sadly, Angie’s shop was lost to flooding a few years ago and ever since, Angie has operated out of a nearby home salon.
“On 2 March 2022 I lost the lot when some piping flooded my store. When I lost my business I had to trust that it was all for a good reason,” Angie said.
Angie has been far from idle, though. Rather she has been warming up her vocal chords in the months leading up to the big audition. In January, she performed at Woy Woy’s Link and Pin with her blues/rock style band Angie Baby and the Chase.
“I’ve been singing for most of my life – my dad put a microphone in my hand when I was three and I used to sing The Rose by Bette Midler," Angie said.
"I moved up here from Perth over 20 years ago and I was quite a successful singer (as a solo artist and in cabaret).
"My band supported John Farnham at Leeuwin Estate Festival in Margaret River. My ex, James Morley was in The Angels and we were in the band together. At the time I was on my way towards a great career, but I lost my entire family – my parents, my brother ... I went through quite a lot of trauma and that knocked me around, including my mental health.
"On January 1 this year I decided to snap out of it and I’ve been turning everything around since! Now I’m 15kg down, I’m in a band and I’m brought in over 20,000 followers on social media on my journey.
“I’m so very happy to know that now, at 53 years of age, that I can reach for the stars.”
Angie’s band Angie Baby and the Chase plays its inaugural gig at Link and Pin on Sunday 10 November.
“Years ago I was pipped at the post by Sophie Monk when I auditioned for Popstars back in [2000] and my life has taken some twists and turns since." Angie reflected.
“A couple of months ago I did a radio interview recently with Kyle and Jackie O and they surprised me by paying me a visit and giving me this Golden Ticket opportunity.”
Angie has a special place in her heart for the Woy Woy Peninsula and has called herself a Woy Woy local for over 20 years. She was even a regular visitor to Woy Woy throughout her childhood.
“My grandparents bought a place in Woy Woy in the late seventies so the Peninsula has always held a special place in my heart,” Angie said.
“I think I’m proving that singing is a spiritual thing right now by picking up the microphone again and taking whatever opportunities come my way.
“It’s a real honour to be performing in Woy Woy in November.”
Angie will be singing some blues and rock, and Link and Pin guests can expect to hear some Renee Geyer.
In Woy Woy, Angie’s most cherished spot is the Woy Woy Waterfront bike path.
“It’s where my mother’s ashes are scattered. I love nothing more than to walk the bike path, to think about her, and to heal, and to watch the pelicans gliding over the water,” she said.
