THE funding for the Burns Road Boom Gates has been secured under the NSW Local Government Flood Recovery Program and will see automated road closure boom gates installed at Burns Road Underpass, a prominent flooding area on the Central Coast.

Member for the The Entrance, David Mehan said “I am pleased that Central Coast Council is finally receiving funding to undertake these essential flood mitigation works at Burns Road Underpass.

“The Underpass is prominent for flooding and these automated boom gates will mean that if we experience any further flood events, there will be no delay in stopping vehicles from entering dangerous flood waters.

“Currently, Council erect traffic barriers and unfold signage at each flood event but the speed at which waters rise means there is always a period when traffic is not stopped from entering flood waters. This funding will ensure that these scenarios are eliminated.”

The area has been and continues to be of concern every time an imminent adverse weather event is declared, where vehicles are regularly swamped at the location.

Flood waters tend to rise very quickly each time we experience a flood event, and these mitigation works will prevent motorists from putting their lives at risk whilst simultaneously reducing the workload on already over stretched emergency services.
