THE $6 million NSW Government project will deliver benefits to road users and the local community between Wills Road and Ourringo Street, with a key focus on the area where Halekulani Oval, the skate park and Budgewoi shopping village are located.

NSW Minister for Roads Jenny Aitchison said, “The NSW Government is investing $6 million into upgrades for Scenic Drive, and it’s pleasing to see so much support for the proposals already delivered to the Budgewoi community.

“While safety and access improvements are the core focus of this work, we want to take advantage of this opportunity to help create a vibrant centre for those who live and work in this area.

“We welcome the valuable input provided by residents and other stakeholders into the process to this point, and we want to ensure this continues to help deliver a design that truly reflects what the community needs.”

A concept design will be developed over the coming months using feedback received from members of the community in October and November 2024, which considered a range of improvements to increase safety for all road users.

There was strong support for road safety and active transport improvements, including safer pedestrian crossings and pathways, and for a reduced speed limit along stretches of Scenic Drive.

Transport for NSW will continue to develop these improvements including adjusting the Budgewoi shopping village car park entry at Noela Place, new pedestrian signals at the shopping village and refuges at other locations, a speed limit reduction to support improved safety, more accessible bus stops and upgrades to existing active transport infrastructure around Slade Park and Budgewoi Bridge.

NSW Minister for Police and Counter-terrorism, and Member for Swansea Yasmin Catley said, “Locals have been calling for upgrades to Scenic Drive for years and I am proud that the Minns Labor Government is delivering.

“Feedback provided by the community will be incorporated into a concept design for further comment from residents, before the final design is determined.

“It’s great to see residents having direct input into the design process so they can positively influence this project and benefit the entire Coast community.”

The concept design will be developed over the coming months and released for further community consultation once finalised.
