Central Coast Council is hosting a series of community pop-ups along the foreshore this month to provide residents with an opportunity to share concerns, ideas or ask questions related to the Tuggerah Lakes Estuary.

COUNCIL Director of Environment and Planning, Alice Howe said these community engagement sessions are part of Council’s commitment to working collaboratively with the community in alignment with the recommendations from the Tuggerah Lakes Expert Panel.

“Council has a holistic and scientific approach to managing the Tuggerah Lakes estuary, with primary objectives focusing on protecting the estuaries’ water quality, plants and biodiversity, as well as meeting the social and economic needs of the community – which is outlined in the Tuggerah Lakes Estuary Management Plan.

“We are now reviewing and updating this plan to develop our new Estuary Management Program, and these community engagement sessions and further engagement this year will provide valuable input to help with its development.”

• Thursday 9 Mar (4pm-7pm) - Toukley: Osborne Park, 20 Peel Street

• Saturday 11 Mar (8am -10:30am) - San Remo Boat Ramp, Corner of Liamena Avenue and Highview Avenue

• Saturday 11 Mar (11am-1:30pm) - San Remo Shared Pathway, Behind corner of Emu Drive and Kallaroo Road

• Sunday 12 Mar (10am- 1pm) - Lake Munmorah Community Hall, Colongra Bay Road

• Thursday 16 Mar (4pm – 7pm) - Wyongah, Boat Ramp, Corner Tuggerawong Road and Oakland Street

• Saturday 18 Mar (7am-10am) - The Entrance, Picnic Point Reserve, Tuggerah Parade

• Sunday 19 Mar (11am-2pm) - Gorokan: Wallarah Point Peace Park, 1 The Corso

• Thursday 23 Mar (3:30-6:30pm) - Chittaway Bay: Lions Park, 389 Lakedge Avenue

Council Administrator Rik Hart said the protection and conservation of the Coast’s rich environment, including Tuggerah Lakes, is important to both Council and our community.

“The strategic management of Tuggerah Lakes has been an ongoing partnership between all levels of government, estuary and coastal management experts, and the community,” Mr Hart said.

“I encourage interested residents to come along and speak to Council staff and further contribute to the co-creation of actions to help protect and restore the estuary.”
