Council backflips
on commuter car park sale
Central Coast Council had previously agreed to sell the commuter carpark in Blackwall Rd and its option was to purchase 220 spaces, approximately 500 less than what the carpark provided. However, Council has finally capitulated to community pressure, resolving to halt the sale of the Woy Woy commuter car park.

AT the most recent Council meeting Council Administrator, Rik Hart, moved a motion to rescind Council’s earlier decision to sell off the carpark to Queensland-based developer, Raptis.
State Member for Gosford Liesl Tesch welcomes the decision, noting the strong community outcry and need for adequate consultation and consideration of local interests.
“We welcome the fact the commuter car park has been taken off the market. Over one thousand signatures on my community petition made it abundantly clear the community does not want to privatise the car park,” Ms Tesch said.
“It is also clear that the community must be consulted on matters that would significantly impact the accessibility and practicality of living in the area.”
Council also acknowledged Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW) interest in purchasing the commuter car park was insufficiently canvassed. Ms Tesch has requested Council provide the necessary information to TfNSW so that this avenue may be adequately investigated.
“Council needs to ensure that they will lock in a long-term contract, to do so I invite Council to provide sufficient information to take to TfNSW,” said MsTesch.
Alongside our community, Ms Tesch is disappointed that Council CEO David Farmer continues to negotiate the sale of the shopper car park at 52 Railway Road, Woy Woy.
“The community expresses their disappointment that the Central Coast Council is privatising the shopper car park, and have made it very clear they did not want any part of our community car park privatised,” she said.
