From a cousin in America

Living in America is ugly at the moment, if not downright dangerous - people are hurting, disenchanted and  angry. But they will prevail, despite the evil machinations of the Mad King.

The following is a letter from a cousin in America to their cousin living on the Central Coast. It was shared with the Grapevine so that we could share it with you.

25 June 2025

IT is very frightening here now. My stomach hurts all the time. I hate reading the news, but I have to read it.

That man (Trump) is insane and very dangerous. I try and stay away from social media because of all the fighting and bickering.

I feel so out of control [and] I HAVE to be in control of something. My house has never been so clean. Every extra minute I am scrubbing. Housework is not my strong point and never was (it probably never will be), but I am now cleaning places that haven’t been cleaned for ... well, too embarrassed to say.

The priest at Mass was saying he felt he needed to do something (without saying what “side” he is on). He came up with the same solution I have ... prayer. PLEASE pray for us!

I am also working on letter writing and phone calls to senators and other representatives.

We went to a town hall meeting. (Democrats, as the Republicans are getting near riots at theirs ... so they are canceling them). We have Democrat and Republicans here. We are what they call “independents“.

The Democrats are “trying“ to stand up to the orange toddler (not very well yet). The Republicans are scared the idiot will end their career, as he did Liz Chaney - as well as others.

Revenge has NEVER been an issue in American politics like it is now. I have never been a great fan of Bernie Sanders (now also an independent), but he has the balls to stand up!

There are big protests scheduled - many of us are afraid the felon will declare marshal law. I know at least one of my family is planning on participating. I just had very unglamorous surgery, or I would have been involved in other protests.

I will be in The Grand Canyon - a National Park - that the psycho has cut funding to - hopefully wearing my T-shirt that says: "don’t look at me ... I didn’t vote for him”.

Unlike you, (but I admire you!) I have never been too much into politics. But I need to stand up and state my ground at this point! Hellllloooo! Haha! It’s that darn (great) Irish in me!

I cannot believe he has only been in office - how long????

Is saying Fuck and Damn and Shit a sin? If so, I need to cut the line at confession!

Hoping you are all well!

Take care my cousin - love you!
