CENTRAL Coast Labor candidates have announced a firm commitment to preserving C2 high-value conservation land in the Region.

In an issued statement from Budegewoi Labor's number two candidate Joy Cooper, it was announced that if elected Labor candidates will do everything in their power to protect C2 conservation land and educate the community about its environmental value and community benefits.

"We will ensure that no C2 Conservation land is rezoned without thorough investigation, justification, and exhaustion of all other options. Additionally, we will advocate for the full use of land already zoned for residential and employment purposes," Ms Cooper said.

The statement emphasised the importance of C2 land for the region's biodiversity and future amenity.

C2 Conservation Land is often found on our ridgelines, in our valleys, and as wetlands. This land is critical to the region's current and future biodiversity. Unnecessary loss of C2 land through rezoning and clearing will result in regional flora and fauna extinctions by 2070.

Labor’s Lead Candidate in Gosford East Ward, Sharon Walsh, also said that as the campaign reached its final days the community’s major concerns were crystal clear.

“The community does not want a vertical sea wall built along Wamberal Beach and even though most impacted by that decision live in The Entrance Ward.

“At candidates forums, in interviews and on prepoll this week it has been evident that the Liberal's Team Central Coast does not have a unified or consistent position on the Wamberal Sea Wall. Labor, on the other hand, is clearly opposed to the plans to build a vertical sea wall along Wamberal Beach,” Ms Walsh said.

Ms Walsh said Labor had strong and clear positions on all the key issues being raised by the community throughout this local government campaign.

“This community is so often overlooked and under-funded and we will be doing everything we can to make sure that pattern changes,” Ms Walsh said.
