Amenities at Archbold Road return
Member for The Entrance, David Mehan is pleased to see the return of the amenities building at Archbold Road, Long Jetty, within the Long Jetty Foreshore Reserve, albeit with reduced facilities.
Local resident Laurette Rose with David Mehan.
CENTRAL Coast Council commenced renewal works on 26 June, 2024 after having notified residents that work would commence in February.
Council proceeded with its original plans of 2 x unisex ambulant cubicles and 1 x unisex disabled cubicle, after much community protest to the reduction in facilities.
The previous building consisted of seven cubicles, together with change aurettrooms and showers.
Council has yet to commence works at the Gladstan Avenue amenities building which will also see a reduction in facilities.
David Mehan said “I am pleased to see the reopening of the amenity building, but disappointed that Central Coast Council proceeded to reduce the number of toilet cubicles at the location, given the community led petition asking that Council reassess its plans, based on community need.
“Council, whilst previously not having any plans to maintain and keep the historical information signage at the Archbold Road amenities building, have since agreed to retain these, after community outrage.
“The historical information signage is an important part of the former amenities, it’s disappointing Council had no plans to retain these, and I am pleased that Council has agreed to restore the signage.”
Local resident Laurette Rose said "It’s an improvement on the previous amenities and once the plants are established and the historical information signage returned it will be much more visually pleasing.”
