LAST year, local recipients such as Gosford Kariong Storm Rugby League Football Club received $5056 through the program, which provides grants for facility upgrades, new equipment and programs that support and encourage participation and active recreation.

Grants of $2000 to $20,000 are available out of $50,000 available in each electorate, with Gosford Kariong Storm buying training equipment and a tracking camera to analyse games.

Member for Gosford, Liesl Tesch MP said that this program was all about ensuring that local sports groups can grow and thrive, “the grants are all about the grassroots; organisations that play such an important role in growing local sport and participation.

“This vital funding helps our local clubs and their many volunteers to provide more opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the benefits of active recreation.

“With the critical role sport plays in keeping people healthy, active and socially connected, this funding is vital to community health, wellbeing and sense of identity.”

Last year the Local Sport Grant Program injected $4.4 million into community sport across NSW through funding for 579 projects.

Minister for Sport Steve Kamper said: “The Minns Labor Government is backing grassroots clubs to grow participation across all ages and abilities.

“The Local Sport Grant Program delivers where it matters – better gear, safer facilities, and more opportunities for people to get active and love their sport.

“If your club needs new equipment or has a great program idea but hasn’t had the resources to make it happen – now’s the time to apply. Let’s get more people moving, playing and enjoying sport right across NSW.”

Applications close 1pm, Monday, 18 August with further information, including program guidelines available here.
