Spread kindness this festive season

This is the time of year many of us look forward to spending with family and friends. But it’s not always possible for everyone. For some, the festive season can be a time of loneliness.

CENTRAL Coast Local Health District Senior Social Worker Lauren Winch is reminding us this time of year can bring on a range of emotions.

“The holidays can be a particularly challenging time for those in our community who don’t have a support network around them. This year due to the challenges of Covid-19 unfortunately many people may find themselves isolated and separated from family, friends and loved ones or being unable to participate in festive activities,” said Ms Winch.

“Feeling sad, lonely, angry and frustrated are all valid experiences if that is the case for you or someone you know,” she said.

Central Coast residents are being encouraged to embrace the spirit of the season and spread goodwill.

“It is important to be kind and patient to everyone we come into contact with over the holiday season, from co-workers to the person in line in front of you at the grocery store," Ms Winch said.

“We can’t always know the difficulties that people are facing and often a little kindness can go a long way”.

Ms Winch said if you’re worried about someone’s mental health and wellbeing, reach out,

“Encourage them to seek support, it might be the best give they receive this year.”

2021 has been tough for everyone in different ways. However, despite all of its challenges this year has definitely highlighted how resilient we are.

The Central Coast community is amazing at coming together and supporting each other and this Christmas will be no different.
