NEWS THAT MATTERS

Support for parents of LGBTQIA+ youth

Having one of your kids come out as sexually or gender diverse can be a scary time full of questions. All parents want what's best for their kids. But providing support isn't always easy — especially if you are the parent or carer of a lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or questioning (LGBTQ) child. In many ways no different from their peers, LGBTQIA+ youth face some unique challenges that parents often feel unprepared to tackle.

IN 2023, PFLAG Central Coast is relaunching with a new team and passion to support your family. We want to hear from parents and carers of LGBTQIA+ people on the Coast. What are you experiencing with your kids in our Region? What support do you and your family need?  Together let’s share information and move forward on the steps you can take to keep your kid happy and healthy.

For many LGBTQIA+ youth, breaking the news to mum and dad is the scariest part of coming out. You’re their anchor, and your acceptance is key. In fact, research shows that LGBTQIA+ adolescents who are supported by their families grow up to be happier and healthier adults.

PFLAG Central Coast is a peer led support group for Parents and Carers of LGBTQIA+ people, established in March 2011, aiming to keep families together, happy and healthy and provide support and information to families, carers and friends of all same sex attracted and gender variant people.

Register to come along to PFLAG Wine and Nibbles @ the ParkHouse Gosford (Kibble Park). Join us for a friendly and relaxed get together, to meet and mingle with other families of LGBTIQA+ people and meet the new Youth Worker and leader of the YAAS! Young Authentic and Social program.
